From Egg to Empathy: A Montessori Journey with Henny Penny

At Montessori Minds, we believe that meaningful learning happens when children are connected to real experiences. This month, the Henny Penny Hatching Program gave our children the chance to do just that—observe, nurture, and connect with new life.

Over two weeks, our children watched as eggs sat in a warm incubator. They listened for soft taps. They saw shells crack. And eventually, they welcomed tiny, fluffy chicks into the world. What unfolded was not just a science lesson—it was a journey of empathy, patience, and awe.

“Where’s their mumma?” one child asked.
“They need heat to come out of the egg,” said another.
“How much do they eat?”
“Can I take one home?”

These innocent questions are at the heart of what Montessori education is all about—developing curious minds and compassionate hearts. Through caring for the chicks, children practiced gentle touch, observed natural processes, and learned to respond to the needs of another living being.

The environment, carefully prepared by our educators, encouraged children to be calm, present, and respectful skills that go beyond the classroom.

As the program wraps up, we’re proud to share that some of our chicks have now been adopted by Montessori Minds families. With support from the Henny Penny Farm, each family received a starter kit to make sure their new feathered friend is comfortable and well cared for.

We are so grateful to all the families who joined us on this beautiful learning journey. These moments—watching a chick take its first breath, hearing your child ask questions about care and life—are the kind of experiences that stay with children for a lifetime.

At Montessori Minds, we don’t just teach.
We nurture wonder. 🌿
