Learning doesn’t always happen inside the classroom — sometimes, it happens in a dental chair!
Our children at Montessori Minds Childcare and Kindergarten in Norlane, Geelong, recently enjoyed a very special visit to Norlane Dental Aesthetics & Implants, where they had the opportunity to meet the Tooth Fairy and discover just how important it is to look after their teeth.
It was an exciting hands-on learning experience filled with smiles, curiosity and plenty of fun!
Meeting the Tooth Fairy
The children were thrilled to meet the Tooth Fairy, who helped make learning about dental health fun and engaging.
They learned about the importance of brushing their teeth every day and keeping their teeth clean and healthy. The children also had the opportunity to ask questions and discover more about what happens when we visit the dentist.
Up, Up and Away in the Dental Chair!
One of the biggest highlights of the visit was getting to experience the big dental chair!
The children took turns sitting in the chair and enjoyed watching it move up and down — something that was both exciting and a little bit magical for our young explorers.
For many children, visiting a dental clinic can feel unfamiliar, so having the opportunity to explore the environment in a fun and relaxed way can help make the experience feel much more comfortable.
Seeing How Dentists Keep Our Teeth Clean
The children were also shown some of the equipment dentists use to examine and clean teeth.
They were able to see demonstrations of dental instruments and learn how dentists help keep our mouths and teeth healthy. For curious Montessori learners, being able to see, explore, and experience real-world equipment made the learning particularly meaningful.
There were plenty of questions, observations, and excited reactions along the way!
Learning Through Real-Life Experiences
At Montessori Minds, we believe children learn best when they can connect learning to the world around them.
This visit was a wonderful example of hands-on, real-life learning — giving children the opportunity to explore a new environment, meet professionals in their community, and develop an understanding of personal care and healthy habits.
From learning how to brush their teeth to experiencing a real dental chair, every part of the visit encouraged curiosity, independence and confidence.
