Curriculum

Our Program

A foundation built for life
Where curiosity is nurtured, independence is encouraged, and every child is empowered to thrive. In our calm, thoughtfully prepared environment, children are supported to explore, discover, and grow with confidence. Each day lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

"Help me to do it by myself."
— The child's voice, at the heart of our approach

At Montessori Minds, our curriculum is built on the belief that children are naturally driven to learn. Rather than delivering knowledge, we prepare environments and experiences that invite children to discover, practise and master — at their own pace, with joy and purpose. Our program is aligned with the VEYLDF and EYLF frameworks.

A Thoughtfully Prepared Journey of Learning

Each part of our curriculum is intentionally designed to support the child's development with care, purpose, and progression.

Children begin with hands-on, concrete experiences and gradually move towards deeper understanding and abstract thinking.

Learning unfolds in a calm, meaningful sequence that builds confidence, independence, and curiosity.

Through this connected approach, every experience contributes to the growth of the whole child.

Practical Life

Practical life is where the journey begins. Through real, purposeful activities — pouring, folding, dressing, preparing food and caring for their environment — children develop the physical skills, concentration and independence that underpin everything else they do.

These are not pretend tasks. Children use real tools scaled to their size and take genuine responsibility for themselves and their classroom. The result is a deep sense of confidence and capability.

Care of Self

Dressing frames, hand washing, food preparation and personal hygiene
Care of Environment

Sweeping, dusting, plant care and maintaining the classroom
Grace & Courtesy

Social foundations woven through every interaction and daily routine
Fine Motor Development

Spooning, pouring, folding and sewing build precision and coordination
Sensorial

Children experience the world through their senses. Our sensorial materials are masterfully designed to isolate one quality at a time — size, colour, texture, weight, sound — allowing children to perceive, compare, and classify with extraordinary precision.

The Pink Tower, Brown Stair, Colour Boxes, Geometry Cabinet and Binomial Cube are not just beautiful objects — they are tools that build the mental structures children will later use for language, mathematics and science.

Visual Sense

Dimension, colour, shape and spatial relationships through hands-on materials
Tactile & Baric Sense

Touch boards, fabrics and baric tablets refine the sense of touch and weight
Auditory Sense

Sound boxes and bells develop careful listening and musical discrimination
Bridge to Abstraction

Sensorial work lays the cognitive groundwork for mathematics and language
Language

Language development begins with the richness of spoken words — stories, songs, conversation and careful listening. From there, our program guides children through a beautifully sequenced path toward reading and writing that honours each child's readiness and pace.

Sandpaper letters engage the touch and muscle memory before pencil is ever lifted. The Moveable Alphabet allows children to compose words and sentences long before they can write them. Reading emerges naturally, joyfully — as a discovery rather than a drill.

Spoken Language

Rich vocabulary, oral expression, storytelling and active listening
Phonemic Awareness

Sound games, sandpaper letters and a strong phonetic foundation
Writing Readiness

Metal insets and handwriting aids develop grip, control and letter formation
Reading & Comprehension

Children progress from recognising letter sounds to reading words, sentences and simple books with growing confidence
Mathematics

Our approach to mathematics is unlike any other. Before a child writes a single numeral, they hold a thousand in their hands — a cube of golden beads representing quantity in a way that is physical, real and unforgettable. Concepts that seem abstract become concrete, logical and inevitable.

From number rods to the stamp game, from counting chains to fractions — every material is self-correcting, beautiful and purposefully sequenced to build deep mathematical understanding, not just procedural recall.

Numbers 1–10

Number rods, sandpaper numbers, spindle boxes and card-and-counter work
The Decimal System

Golden Beads and the Stamp Game bring place value and operations to life
Counting & Skip Counting

Teen and tens boards, bead chains and the 100-square build number sense
Memorisation & Fractions

Strip boards, charts and fraction insets consolidate fluency and concepts
Biology

From the smallest seed to the animal kingdom, our biology programme brings the living world into children's hands. Through botany and zoology, children develop a rich scientific vocabulary and a genuine love of the natural world long before formal science begins.

Leaf cabinets, botany cards, animal puzzles and nature walks give children direct sensory experiences of life — nurturing curiosity, environmental awareness and a sense of wonder that lasts a lifetime.

Botany

Plant classification, parts of a plant, leaf shapes and care of living things
Zoology

Animal classification, body parts, habitats and the animal kingdom
Nature Study

Hands-on observation of the living world — inside and outside the classroom
Environmental Awareness

Respect and stewardship for the natural world from the earliest years
Geography

Geography in our program begins with a child's own place in the world and expands outward — from the room, to the community, to the continents. Through globes, puzzle maps and land and water forms, children develop a concrete understanding of the earth they live on.

Cultural studies run alongside geography, introducing children to the diversity of human life — different languages, celebrations, foods and traditions. This cultivates not just knowledge, but genuine respect and wonder for how others live.

Land & Water Forms

Sandpaper globe, painted globe and hands-on land form trays
Maps & Continents

Puzzle maps of the world and continents build spatial awareness
Cultural Studies

Flags, people, traditions and ways of life from around the world
Diversity & Cultures

Children learn about different cultures, traditions and ways of life, celebrating the richness of our diverse world

Grace & Courtesy

Grace and Courtesy is not a separate lesson — it is the invisible fabric of our day. Children learn how to move through the world with care and consideration: how to greet someone, how to ask for help, how to move through a busy room without disturbing others.

These lessons are modelled and practised gently, without shame or pressure. Over time they become second nature — a genuine culture of respect that children carry with them far beyond the classroom walls.

From everyday movement and communication to mealtimes, hygiene and community routines, Grace and Courtesy gives children the social confidence to belong, connect and contribute.
